The Intro
These two sides look to be the most likely to be securing the one valuable automatic promotion spot into the Southern League at the end of the season. Clevedon start the day 7 points clear of Athletic, but have played an extra 4 matches. Their previous 3 games have seen them score 10 goals and conceded none.
Torpoint have only lost 2 matches so far all season – a 1-0 loss at fellow promotion-chasers Sidmouth Town a few weeks ago, and a 2-1 defeat against Bridgwater United back in November. The Cornish side had a memorable FA Cup run starting with a convincing 6-1 thrashing of local rivals Saltash United, before eventually losing out to National League North side Merthyr Town in the 2nd Qualifying Round.
The Ground
Clevedon is a quiet Victorian seaside town to the north of Weston-Super-Mare and south of Portishead. It is probably most well known for its well-looked after pier which is well worth a visit.
The Hand Stadium is located out of town alongside the M5 motorway. Unfortunately this makes it slightly tricky to get to unless you are going by car. On the plus side it is an impressive stadium for a team currently playing at Step 5 of the non league system, with a main seated stand holding around 300 and a large covered terrace on the opposite touchline. There are open standing areas behind each goal. It is a stadium that would not look out of place at least a couple of levels higher, if not in the National League South.
The ground is currently being shared with Clevedon AFC (formerly Uphill Castle) of the Somerset County League.
