    The Intro

Both of these sides finished mid-table in the 24/25 Ardal League South East. The Bluebirds finished in 10th place, and haven’t got off to the best of starts this time out. Their three defeats so far have all been heavy: at home to Cwmbran Town and then Goytre 3 days later, followed by a 6-1 loss at Abercarn United. In between these league defeats the Blues found time to crash out of the Welsh Cup to lower league Giants Grave. Things have picked up since then with a 3-1 win over Caldicot Town and then two draws with Lliswerry and Undy. They also remain in the Amateur Trophy with wins over Bonymaen Colts, Clydach Wasps, and – last weekend – near neighbours Nantyglo.

Brecon Corries ended the last campaign in 8th position, and this season find themselves a few places above today’s opponents. They do, however, come into today’s game in terrible form – having lost their last five in all competitions; including a 9-2 thrashing at Caldicot Town last time out. They defeated rock bottom Tredegar Town in their most recent win, with their only other victory coming on opening day at Canton. Corries made it through one round of the Welsh Cup, beating Cardiff Bay Warriors; but went out in the next, losing at home to Cefn Cribwr.

This looks like a tough game to call with two sides looking to kick start their seasons.

    Intro

These two teams coincidentally faced each other just 4 days ago as they played out a 2-2 draw over at Ystrad Mynach in the Ardal League South East. Last weekend Chepstow conceded an injury time equaliser to draw in the local derby at home to Caldicot Town. Before that they won their first two league games of the season – 4-1 at home to Hay St Mary’s, followed by a 4-3 away win at Blaenavon Blues. To reach this stage of the Welsh Cup, Chepstow beat Wattsville FC 3-2 at home back at the end of July.

Risca’s season has been a bit of a rollercoaster so far: close-sounding losses to Undy AFC and Newport City either side of a convincing win over Brecon Corries, mean they will need to find some consistency if they want to replicate last season’s good showing which culminated in a promotion play-off loss to Baglan Dragons. Risca seemingly received a bye to this round of the Cup and so will look to kick off in this competition on the right foot.

    Intro

This is the first game I locked in when planning this weekend away; I had a look to see what Friday games were on and this was one that caught my eye. A match between two teams battling against relegation seemed like a good start to a weekend of football and so it was settled. Tredegar come into this game in a patchy run of form, most recently drawing at home to Brecon Corries on Tuesday night. On Saturday they secured what could be a vital win against bottom side and local rivals RTB Ebbw Vale. Currently in 13th position (out of 16), Tredegar have struggled for consistency all season; only stringing together consecutive victories on one occasion.

Newport City are a position and a point better off than their hosts today and lost their last game, against Chepstow Town a week ago. Before that was a resounding 7-1 away win over Monmouth Town, and this demonstrates a similar struggle for form to the home side. Having said that, their league performance has improved after they lost the opening 7 games of the league season, including a 2-0 loss to Ebbw Vale.

This could prove to be a close one to call, with the reverse fixture in February ending in a 1-1 draw.
